What is AVS Mismatch?
What Does AVS Mismatch Mean?

When Does AVS Mismatch Happen? Keep Reading, Help Just Arrived.

In e-commerce, the term AVS is shorthand for Address Verification System. What exactly is AVS? Before answering, let’s look at how an online credit card transaction is processed.

Let’s say you want to order a bottle of CBD Oil Capsules that can help you get some quality sleep. Once you get to the checkout page, you pull out the credit card or it’s in a secure online wallet.

Whether the required info gets typed in or your secure online wallet autofills, you are now ready to complete the order.

You tap or click the ORDER button, and a few seconds later, the order is approved, unless there is an issue with your credit card.

The order may only take a few seconds to get approved, but several steps take place during those few seconds. After you tap or click the ORDER button, our e-commerce software sends the data to our payment processor.

The processor contacts your customer’s credit/debit card provider to confirm the customer has enough credit or $$$ for the transaction, and the card has no issues.

Next, the credit/debit card provider checks with the customer’s bank to confirm the transaction.

Assuming there are no problems, the payment processor confirms the transaction and issues the customer an electronic receipt as the order is now approved.

The Graphic Below Describes the Information Flow from the Time You Place the Order Until It's Approved, or Declined.

How Does AVS Mismatch Happen? It’s One of Many Things That Can Go Wrong with a Credit Card Transaction.

An AVS Mismatch is only one of many things that cause a credit/debit card transaction to be declined. Others include;

  • Insufficient funds (AKA Hitting the credit limit).
  • Expired card.
  • Typo in your payment information.
  • Hold placed by a hotel or rental car company.
  • Suspicious purchase.
  • Exposure to a threat.
  • Fraud protections triggered.
  • A Credit Card AVS Mismatch is an example of Fraud Protection Triggered.

How Do I Correct the Credit Card AVS Mismatch Problem or Related Credit Card Transaction Problems? Part 1

Contact the card issuer by phone as soon as possible to find out why the transaction was declined.

Once you find out why the transaction was declined, ask the CSR for direction on the quickest way to correct the problem.

It could be as simple as inadequate credit/money on the card to make the purchase. Correct that issue by paying down your balance at the earliest opportunity. If your card expired and you received a replacement card, activate the new card immediately.

If it were a typo, the software would let you know the information is incorrect. Review what you entered, identify the typo, correct it, and you should be OK.

How Do I Correct the Credit Card AVS Mismatch Problem or Related Credit Card Transaction Problems? Part 2

Frequently, a rental car company or hotel places a hold on your card until you’ve checked out or paid the final bill. If this hold is large enough and you are close to your credit limit, that card could be declined.

Here are three approaches for managing this issue.

  • Some holds linger a few days after the bill is paid. When you check out of a hotel or return a rental car, ask the company to remove the authorization hold immediately after you pay the final bill.
  • Ask the credit card issuer if the hold can be removed.
  • Always carry a backup credit card with you in case a company takes its time removing a credit card hold.

How Do I Correct the Credit Card AVS Mismatch Problem or Related Credit Card Transaction Problems? Part 3

You might be traveling away from home, possibly outside the United States, and making large purchases that deviate from your normal spending patterns.

Some credit card companies block or put a hold on foreign purchases or purchases made far from your home to prevent fraud, even if your account is in excellent shape.

When planning to travel, contact your credit card company(s) to notify them so they won’t decline these larger transactions or even flag them as fraud. The apps for most credit cards also allow you to notify the company(s) when you’re traveling. As powerful as many apps are, that might even be your best approach.

What could happen if purchases made while you travel are marked as potential fraud? When this happens, your credit card company may put a hold on your card and decline purchases until you call to resolve the issue.

How Do I Protect Myself From Online Credit Card Fraud?

  • Make a list of your credit cards with the phone numbers to call in case of theft or loss.
  • Never lend your credit card.
  • Keep any convenience cheques given to you by your credit card issuer in a safe place.
  • Report a lost or stolen card to your credit card issuer immediately.
  • Don’t give out your card number.
  • Only shop on trusted websites.
  • Don’t store card numbers with online retailers.
  • Be wary of verification texts.

Recently, I was in a Supermarket and taped to the customer service counter was a notice from the FBI warning people about various types of online scams.

The bad guys will make all kinds of enticing promises to get your credit card number from you. In many cases, they will dangle promises of extraordinary profits from crypto or “incredible” investment opportunities.

When you see one of these “opportunities,” DO NOT tap or click the link. If it is part of an email report the email as phishing and block the sender. Protect yourself, and don’t become one of their victims. Remember, if it looks too good to be true, it probably is.

Groovy Hemp Company and What is AVS Mismatch? What Does AVS Mismatch Mean? FAQs

CBD stands for Cannabidiol, one of many phytocannabinoids found in cannabis. Unlike THC, CBD is not psychoactive. Additionally, independent research and consumer feedback demonstrate numerous benefits for human and pet health. In hemp, CBD Oil is found in a much higher concentration than any other cannabinoid.

CBD Oil works synergistically with your body’s Endocannabinoid System (ECS) to supplement the naturally occurring cannabinoids in your system.

When your body absorbs CBD Oil, it improves the endocannabinoid system’s ability to promote a balanced internal environment (Homeostasis).

Consuming CBD Oil products can help you maintain a regular level of CBD Oil in your system, promoting optimal wellness.

CBD Oil Edibles include Gummies, Chocolates, Chewing Gum, Infused Drink Mixes, and Infused Drinks. CBD Oil Edibles can be either Full-spectrum or THC-free. They are also available in Water-soluble form.

CBD Oil Edibles’ advantages include being easy to use and easy to store, and transport. The only real disadvantage is the low bioavailability of non-Water Soluble Edibles.

Full-spectrum CBD Oil contains trace amounts of other phytocannabinoids, including THC (less than 0.3%), and various terpenes (depending on the strain). All these organic compounds work synergistically, providing a theoretically fuller therapeutic effect than Broad-spectrum CBD Oil (THC-Free) or CBD Isolate (also THC-Free).

If a label says Full-spectrum CBD Oil but you have doubts, read the Independent Lab Results. That should be available on the vendor’s website. The lab results will show the percentages of phytocannabinoids present (or not present) in the formulation. For Delta 8 or Delta 9 THC, 0.3% or less should be the amount listed.

In Full-spectrum CBD (with THC), the Entourage Effect is a term used to describe how THC amplifies the therapeutic impact of a combination of a major cannabinoid (e.g., CBD or CBN), minor cannabinoids, Terpenes, and other organic compounds.

In THC-free CBD, the Entourage Effect is a term used to describe how a specific formulation amplifies the therapeutic impact of a combination of a major cannabinoid (e.g., CBD or CBN), minor cannabinoids, Terpenes, and other organic compounds.

THC-free CBD Oil means exactly what it says. It’s CBD Oil without any THC. There are two types of THC-free CBD Oil.  Broad-spectrum CBD Oil contains trace amounts of other phytocannabinoids except THC.

The strict interpretation of CBD Isolate is CBD Oil without any other phytocannabinoids, including THC. It also has no terpenes or any other organic compounds that might be found in Industrial Hemp, Pharmaceutical, or Food Grade Hemp

If a label says CBD Isolate or Broad-spectrum CBD, but you have doubts, read the COA (Independent Lab Results). This document should be available on the vendor’s website.

The lab results will show the percentages of phytocannabinoids present (or not present) in the formulation. More specifically, Delta 8 or Delta 9 THC should be listed as “ND” (for none detected).

If you can’t find a COA for the product you’re looking at, consider another brand or vendor. groovyhempcompany.com has a COA for every CBD product we provide.

The abbreviation for a Certificate of Analysis is COA (AKA Independent Lab Results). You can find a COA on the individual product page under the tab marked Independent Lab Results.
