Do Terpenes Do More Than Create Taste & Aromas? Read Terpenes and CBD Oil Products Part 1 and Find Out.

When I first got involved with CBD Oil products, I saw the term Terpenes and wondered; What are Terpenes? Over the years, I may have heard the term in passing but really didn’t worry about it.

Initially, I wasn’t sure if they mattered. As I’ve learned over time and part of why I wrote this article, Terpenes matter very much. Here’s an official explanation. Terpenes are organic compounds found in fruits, herbs, and plants including both major strains of the cannabis genus, Hemp, and Marijuana.

They have naturally occurring distinctive fragrances. Terpenes are the main contributor to the taste, color, and scent of all plant life. Again, including, Hemp and Marijuana.

Characteristics of Terpenes, an Introduction

Terpenes can be sweet, spicy, piney, earthy, musky, or bitter. They can smell like citrus or any other description of a taste or scent of something. Terpenes in different foods, drinks, or flowers can be distinct enough to evoke different emotions.

They can also bring back memories of different events or people that can stir a whole different set of emotions. We’ve all been there, think about it.

Remember that wonderful aroma coming out of your oven when you baked cookies? That comes from a combination of various terpenes.

Terpenes and Cannabis, an Overview

Different strains of Hemp and Marijuana have their own signature smell and aromas that help those specific strains appeal to different people.

As I said earlier, terpenes very much matter and the importance of Terpenes very much transcends the worlds of Hemp and Marijuana. But moving forward today, we’ll just stay focused on Terpenes and Hemp.

Besides fragrance and taste, Terpenes might also possess some medicinal properties.
They could be used to treat multiple symptoms including anxiety, depression, insomnia, and inflammation.

CBD Terpenes

In Hemp, there is an increasing amount of evidence that terpenes work with phytocannabinoids (CBD, CBG, CBN, and related organic compounds and THC) to possibly produce enhanced health benefits.

This is commonly referred to as the Entourage Effect. There is some debate within the Hemp community about whether the Entourage Effect exists.

Considering how various Cannabinoid-based product formulations are evolving, it might become a moot point. Eventually, we’ll find out, but probably not today.
