In-Depth CBD Article: What Are Terpenes and Why are They Important? Part 2

Currently, approximately eleven terpenes have been found at high enough concentrations in Hemp to justify or even consider research.

Currently, out of those eleven terpenes, there are maybe six that are available in even moderate-sized concentrations.

The more prevalent Cannabis terpenes include:

  • Myrcene – The aroma is musky and earthy. Think of cloves and herbal. It’s helpful for sedating and relaxing. Myrcene is an anti-inflammatory that is useful for pain relief. It’s also a sedative and muscle relaxant.
  • Limonene – The aroma is citrus. It’s a mood elevator and anti-depressant. It’s helpful for stress relief and reducing anxiety. Limonene also helps relieve nausea.
  • Pinene – The aroma is pine, fresh mountain air, slightly woody. It will help you stay alert and it’s an energy booster. Pinene improves focus and memory and it’s also a bronchodilator.
  • Caryophyllene – The aroma is spicy, woody, and pepper. It provides pain relief and it’s an anti-inflammatory. Caryophyllene is also an anti-depressant and has anti-anxiety qualities.
  • Humulene – The aroma is woody, earthy, herbal, and spicy. It provides pain relief and it’s an anti-inflammatory. Humulene is also an appetite suppressant and is believed to have anti-tumor qualities.
Groovy Hemp Company in-depth articles provide information on Organic, CBD Oil products along with other interesting subjects including terpenes.

Just to confuse you, the above-mentioned terpene characteristics are certainly not conclusive definitions. Think of them as baseline descriptions, a starting point.

You can visit the Internet and find multiple variations on these terpene characteristics. Short-term, doing that might give you a headache. Long-term, it’s always productive to examine and learn different rational, intelligent, well-documented scientific perspectives.

In the Hemp industry, we have some very, very smart people who work in the fields, greenhouses, labs, and various phases of production.

They are always working on formulations that combine certain specific Terpenes and Phytocannabinoids in very specific amounts for very specific purposes.

No left-over hippie alchemy or fairy dust, this is an industry built on science and a lot of hard work. The Hemp industry is a constantly changing, forever evolving landscape. Expect changes, unexpected advances, and many surprises.

Expect that a lot of what you take for granted today could change tomorrow. And probably will.

Current industry knowledge of Terpenes and how they interact with Phytocannabinoids is ever-expanding and changing. The rate of change will more than likely increase as time goes on.

Depending on which article or post you recently read, currently, there are anywhere from approximately 140 to 200 different terpenes identified in cannabis. Once again, meaning Hemp and Marijuana.

If you’re optimistic, you could envision a world where Terpenes and Phytocannabinoids play a larger role in societal health and wellness.
At Groovy Hemp Company, we’re cautiously optimistic.
